Organist

The Position

The Organist provides musical leadership and support for the traditional worship life of First United Methodist Church of Frankfort.

The position is approximately 10–15 hours per week and includes responsibilities related to Sunday worship, choir rehearsals, worship planning and preparation, and special services and events.

Our traditional worship service takes place each Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary.

Responsibilities

• Provide organ and piano music for the Sunday traditional worship service.
• Select and prepare appropriate music for worship services in coordination with the church's worship and music leadership.
• Prepare registrations and settings for the pipe organ.
• Accompany choirs, vocalists, instrumentalists, and other musicians as needed.
• Participate in weekly choir rehearsals.
• Participate in weekly worship planning and musical preparation.
• Provide music for special services, holidays, weddings, funerals, and other church events as needed.
• Coordinate with substitute musicians when unavailable for scheduled services.
• Help monitor the condition and maintenance of the church's musical instruments and communicate with qualified professionals when service or repairs are needed.

Qualifications

• Proficiency on pipe organ and piano.
• Strong sight-reading skills.
• Knowledge of music theory and the ability to improvise or adapt music as appropriate.
• Experience accompanying choirs, vocalists, and instrumentalists.
• Familiarity with traditional Christian worship and hymnody is preferred.
• Formal musical training and/or significant professional experience is preferred.
• Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
• Reliability and the ability to prepare consistently for weekly worship and rehearsals.

Our Instruments

First United Methodist Church of Frankfort is home to a pipe organ and two baby grand pianos, providing a strong musical foundation for worship and ministry.

Compensation

Compensation is $17,000–$20,000 annually, commensurate with training and experience.
